Narrative atau Recount? (Perbedaan + Persamaan) - Pernahkah anda mengalami kesulitan menjawab ketika ditanya apa sih perbedaan dan persamaan Narrative Text dan Recount Text? Sebagaimana kita ketahui, kedua jenis Teks Bahasa Inggris (Types of Text) tersebut termasuk ke dalam golongan Narration, yang kita sudah bahaas di artikel Types of Text, yang tentunya memiliki banyak persamaan. Tetapi disetiap ada persamaan, ada juga yang namanya perbedaan.

A. Persamaan Narrative Text dan Recount Text
Sebagaimana sedikit dijelaskan di atas terdapat persamaan yang dimiliki oleh Narrative Text dan Recount Text, persamaan antara kedua jenis teks tersebut adalah:
1. Termasuk ke dalam golongan teks Narration. Narration adalah golongan teks bahasa Inggris yang menceritakan kejadian di masa lalu.
2. Menggunakan Past Tense. Karena kedua teks tersebut termasuk ke dalam golonganNarration yang menceritakan kejadian di masa lalu, maka penggunaan Tenses-nya juga terpengaruh yaitu menggunakan Past Tense.
3. Tujuan komunikatif dari Narrative Text dan Recount Text sama yaitu untuk menceritakan kembali pengalaman-pengalaman atau kejadian-kejadian di masa lalu dengan tujuan memberi informasi atau menghibur.
4. Struktur kebahasaan Narrative Text dan Recount Text selalu di awali oleh Orientationatau pengenalan tokoh, tempat dan waktu kejadian.
5. Terakhir, Narrative Text dan Recount Text memiliki kesamaan pada Ciri kebahasaan, seperti:
- Menggunakan action verb (kata kerja aksi), misalnya: went, sleept, ran, etc;
- Menggunakan Time Connectives dan Conjunction untuk mengurutkan kejadian yang diceritakan. Misalnya: then, before, after, soon, etc;
- Menggunakan Adverbs dan Adverbial Phrase untuk menunjukan lokasi kejadian atau peristiwa. Misalnya: here, in the mountain, etc.
B. Perbedaan
Di setiap persamaan, timbul juga yang namanya perbedaan. Nah untuk Narrative Text danRecount Text, terdapat perbedaan sebagai berikut:

C. Membandingkan
Setelah kita membaca perbedaan dan persamaan antara Narrative Text dan Recount Textdi atas, saatnya kita mencoba untuk membandingkan perbedaan dan persamaan keduanya pada dua contoh berikut ini:
1. Crow and Peacock
Once, long ago, the crow and the peacock were good friends. Everyday they would go out together to work or to play.
Now in those days the crow and the peacock both had plain white feathers.
One day they were playing in a field of brightly colored flowers.
"Look, friend Peacock. Don't you wish we wore bright colors like those flowers?"
"I think that would be wonderful, friend Crow. I am tired of these plain white feathers."
Then crow had an idea. "Why don't we PAINT ourselves? I can paint your feathers and you can paint mine!"
The peacock agreed. So the next day Crow began to paint Peacock's feathers. He used the most beautiful colors. He painted peacock's breast and head a magnificent blue. On peacock's tail feathers he drew elaborate designs. He created large rainbow spots like brilliant eyes on peacock's tail. Crow spent many hours painting his friend. When he was finished, Peacock spread his tail feathers and began to strut around. He wanted to go and show everyone his beautiful feathers.
"Now it is your turn to paint me," said Crow.
But Peacock did not want to waste time drawing designs on Crow. He simply took a pot of black ink and poured it over crow's head.
"There you are. That should do."
And the proud Peacock strutted off to show his feathers to the world. So today the crow is all plain.
And even though Peacock IS beautiful, It is clear that he is too proud for his own good.
2. London Vacation
Mr. Richard’s family was on vacation. They are Mr. and Mrs. Richard with two sons. They went to London. They saw their travel agent and booked their tickets. They went to the British Embassy to get visas to enter Britain. They had booked fourteen days tour. This includes travel and accommodation. They also included tours around London. They boarded a large Boeing flight. The flight was nearly fourteen hours.
On the plane the cabin crews were very friendly. They gave them news paper and magazine to read. They gave them food and drink. There was a film for their entertainment. They had a very pleasant flight. They slept part of the way.
On arrival at Heathrow Airport, they had to go to Customs and Immigration. The officers were pleasant. They checked the document carefully but their manners were very polite. Mr. Richard and his family collected their bags and went to London Welcome Desk. They arranged the transfer to a hotel.
The hotel was a well-known four-star hotel. The room had perfect view of the park. The room had its own bathroom and toilet. Instead of keys for the room, they inserted a key-card to open the door. On the third floor, there was a restaurant serving Asian and European food. They had variety of food.
The two week in London went by fast. At the end of the 14-day, they were quite tired but they felt very happy.
